The Valpo Surf Project strives to help their students develop the characteristics and skills necessary to become leaders and active members in their communities. In order to form a strong bond to this community, we believe it is important to first meet its members: they are a rich source of knowledge about their community, energy, commitment among other factors.
Recently, the Valpo Surf Project (VSP) sought out the support of local vendors at the produce market as well as nearby bakeries. These individuals understand that it is key to support the younger generation in their communities and therefore have agreed to generously supply us with fruit and bread for our weekly surf sessions. We want to give these supporters our sincerest gratitude by introducing them to you.

VSP: Why are you giving food to VSP?
MO: I am giving food to VSP to help my neighbors.
VSP: Do you think there is a benefit to support younger generations - if so, what is the benefit?
MO: Without a doubt. I have always thought that what one sows is what he reaps, apart from that, I feel a great sense of gratification. A long time ago I had a lot of material possessions, but because of certain circumstances I lost it all. Thanks to God, nowadays I am well, I have moved forward with my family: by donating these small items I also hope to spread joy. I understand that crime and drug addiction is today’s reality and with the little that I am giving I hope that this organization can help change this reality.

VSP: Why are you giving food to VSP?
CS: I am doing it as an act of kindness.
VSP: Do you think there is a benefit to support younger generations - if so, what is the benefit?
CS: Yes of course there are benefits, but these we will see in the future.

VSP: Why are you giving food to VSP?
VA: It is in my nature to help those that need it.
VSP: Do you think there is a benefit to support younger generations - if so, what is the benefit?
VA: There are so many benefits. The work that you are doing is showing them another world. You are helping them grow spiritually and helping them discover the tools that they have to get out of the holes (of life). I believe that life is a cycle - the kids will do what they see in their house or in the streets, but your organization is working to show them it is not necessary to follow the example, that they can be slightly different. Although only 10 of 100 may learn this, those 10 people will do something special - thanks to you.
We want to extend another message of gratitude for all of the community support that we have received. The work that we do is amplified through the support of others: individually we are a drop, but together we are an ocean.
