MEET COLOMBA

Colomba grew up and lives in an area of Valparaíso that is renowned for its high levels of crime, drug trafficking, and gun violence, which has only gotten worse in recent years. She has been with Valpo Surf Project since we started working in her neighborhood 9 years ago. She is a motivated surfer who is a standout in our advanced surf sessions. Colomba says the VSP has made her feel empowered and has increased her confidence in and out of the water.

VSP is an outlet from the everyday realities and stressors that Colomba faces. The ocean provides a space to relax, but also to build resilience and face fears. Not only does Colomba speak to these benefits, but so do her siblings, cousins, and neighbors who are also long-term participants of VSP.

It has been incredible to watch Colomba grow over the past 9 years into the talented surfer and person that she is today.
