FIC Surf 2015

Valpo Surf Project made its way to Corporación Cultural Las Condes in Santiago on November 27th to attend the 8th annual FICSURF (International Surf Film Festival). Three of our students, Sofia, Mariana, and Vicente joined the staff at the event.

Both the staff and students enjoyed the film La Primera Ola, a short project which tells the story of the early days of Spanish surfing, inside the center’s theatre. Afterwards we headed outside to the FIMAP (Beach Environmental Innovation Fair). They had the chance to visit many stands including organizations such as; Punta de Lobos Reciclaje, Quili, Bureo, and Give Surf. We learned about surfboard bags made from old billboard signs by Surca, we tried to keep our feet under us on Quili balance boards, signed a petition to keep plastic bags out of the ocean at Yo Soy Eco, and observed the process of making environmentally friendly wax at Fractal Surf Wax.

As the sun set the crowd moved to the outside screen and sat on the lawn to watch Vaimana, La Costa Intervenida, Deep Water Africa, Faroes. The Outpost. Vol2. and El Regalo, a short film made by Viña del Mar native Eduardo Bartolomé about four youths who use surf to change their lives.

Check out FICSURF’s web page to learn more about this great event. We’re stoked to see you all again next year!
